When you trade in a vehicle with its maintenance records do you black out your contact info on the invoices?

Awesome gif! I don’t sell my cars; I junk them, so the maintenance records aren’t really necessary, are they? :p

I never bothered.

Especially if you sell it privately, they have your name already. They could easily get your number or address if they dont have it already.

I don’t even know if all dealers pass those records on to the next guy or not

I keep pretty extensive records and I want to make sure the next owner knows everything done on the car while it was under my care. I would hope a dealer would pass those records on.

The two used cars that I’ve bought from dealers have had numerous service receipts in the glove box. In the case of my 240D the previous owner was dead.

I don’t care if my phone number is on them but my shop has my address.

Unless it’s a specialized car/dealer, I doubt they get passed along. I fold the Monroney sticker into the manual and toss the rest.

That’s kind of a bummer. I’d like the next owns to know what’s been taken care of already.

Two questions - are you selling something where maintenance records even matter, and if you’re trading it in - doors the dealer care (I wouldn’t think so).

If they aren’t giving you more because of the records, why include them?

Or conversely, if the records matter so much, why are you trading it in to a dealer who very likely doesn’t care and likely isn’t paying you what a private buyer would (especially considering the extra value a private buyer could place on those records)?

It’s ten year old Audi so I would hope the next buyer would like to know what was done. Doubt the dealer cares though.

It’s a noble thought, but I don’t see why you’d include information that makes you nervous when there’s no benefit to you.

The risk seems to outweigh the rewards here, despite it being “the right thing to do.”

I could be wrong, but I’ve never received any service records on a used car I’ve purchased from a dealer, nor have I ever been asked for them when I traded a vehicle in. When I sold my first truck years ago, which I did privately, I had a big file of all my records. The buyer didn’t want them, and didn’t even want to look at them.
